NEARLY 10 tonnes of narcotics confiscated from suspects was incinerated yesterday to mark the annual International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Foreign diplomats and relevant government officials, police and anti-narcotics officers were all present at the incineration venue in Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-In industrial estate. The 9.47 tonnes of drugs, worth about Bt22 billion on the street, were put through heat of 850 degrees Celsius and incinerated in no time.

Of the total, 7.3 tonnes of drugs worth about Bt19.8 million on the street were seized as part of 5,508 cases, while the Narcotics Suppression Bureau had seized the remainder.

The haul included 66 million amphetamine tablets, 798kg of "ice" flakes, 418kg of heroin, 35kg of cocaine, 27,000 Ecstasy pills, 18kg of opium among others.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yutthawong said the total amount of narcotics seized this year was four times more than previous years, adding that the increase in arrests and amount of drugs confiscated could be put down to heightened control measures. He did not elaborate on the figures.

Public Health Ministry Dr Rajata Rajatanavin said as of last year, 359,399 people were undergoing rehabilitation - well above the projected figure of 300,000.

The projection this year has been set at 220,000 people, and follow-up steps to further threat 230,000 people that underwent the rehabilitation last year would continue.

Du siehst, ich habe da absolut kein Erbarmen.
Man kann's nicht oft genug wiederholen - wer sich hier mit so Zeugs einlässt ist selber Schuld.

2 men arrested with 2mln speed pills, 50kg of 'ice'

Police arrested two men in the centre of Chiang Mai on Wednesday evening with 2 million methamphetamine pills and 50 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine or "ice".

Pol Lt Gen Thanitsak Theerasawat, commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 5, said on Thursday that Somchai Thesthim, 28, and Mongkhol Chamto, 26, were arrested with the narcotics at Big C Extra store in Nong Pa Khrang sub-district of Muang Chiang Mai.

The suspects arrived in a van and a sedan registered in Bangkok. The arrest resulted from recent intelligence that illicit drugs would be delivered there.

Daily News reported that Mr Mongkhol of Samut Sakhon province was delivering the drug to Mr Somchai, a native of Chon Buri, who would then forward the drug to vendors throughout Chiang Mai.

Mr Mongkhol was quoted as saying he was hired for a million baht to make the delivery.

Von der Seite der Produktion und dem Handel her wird man das Zeugs wohl nie in den Griff bekommen - zu einfach und kostengünstig ist die Herstellung.

Bleibt viel mehr, die Prävention zu fördern, z.B. über die neuen Medien wie FB oder Whats Up.

Teachers busted for drug sale at school

SURAT THANI — Police have arrested two high school teachers and two others for selling methamphetamine pills to pupils in front of the private school where they worked.

The two teachers were identified as Supaporn Buapetch, 36, and Apichart Sornnucha, 29. The pair worked at a private school in Ban Na San district.

Pol Col Arun Klawwatee, chief of Investigation Division Provincial Police Region 8, said the arrests came after officers received a complaint that a teacher at the school had sold methamphetamine pills, or ya ba, to local youngsters and used the institute as a meeting point to deliver the drugs to the young customers.

Investigators soon learned that Ms Supaporn and Mr Apichart had been operating as the drug delaers. Ms Supaporn was arrested during a sting operation when she was delivering 240 ya ba tablets to an undercover policeman for 30,000 baht outside her school.

Ms Supaporn allegedly confessed that the drugs belonged to her husband Thanasak Po-in, 34. A search at his home found 110 meth tablets. Mr Thanasak, who is the gang leader, later led police to the home of the fourth gang member Somkiat Chaisakul, 34, where another 1,300 ya ba pills were hidden.

After her arrest, Ms Supaporn told police she had hidden 50 speed pills near the school’s fence for Mr Apichart to pick up.

Pol Col Arun said the gang leader was a son of a local politician. He was a former drug convict released from Surat Thani Central Prison about a year ago.

Huge drug op run from behind bars
A major meth and gun bust led investigators to Khao Bin Prison

Police have found that one of the nation's biggest drug operations was being run from within prison walls. More than 300,000 tablets of methamphetamine, 44 kilogrammes of crystal meth, and 22 firearms, many of them war weapons, were seized from two suspects in a raid by 191 special operation police officers last week.

Investigators were able to establish the two suspects worked for a major drug trafficking network run from inside Khao Bin Prison in Ratchaburi province, a high security prison.

Pol Col Samran Nualma, chief of the special operation police, said the arrests last Wednesday arose from sleuthing by a team of undercover agents, who had been on the trail of the two traffickers for about a month.

The suspects were nabbed while attempting to deliver drugs in an isolated soi between Bangkok's Taling Chan district and Nakhon Pathom's Buddha Monthon district. They were identified as Wirach Nuchjaroen, 29, and his girlfriend, Sukanya Sae Tang, 24.

The methamphetamine and crystal meth, with a total street value of 120 million baht, were seized along with a white Honda Jazz, 22 guns and 1,800 rounds of ammunition.

A probe later linked the two to the Khao Bin Prison drug network. Khao Bin is a maximum-security prison where prisoners with drug convictions serve life sentences. A source at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau said the prison was notorious as a "headquarters" for big-time drug traffickers who direct their drug empire from behind bars with smuggled mobile phones.

"Those drug inmates could continue ordering, by phone, drugs from the Thai-Myanmar border areas to be delivered to traffickers in the network who distributed the drugs for them," a source said.

Even though they are incarcerated, their illicit wealth continues to grow as all transactions are made by phone calls and money transfers to a network of drug minions, the source said.

Painstaking detective work led police to the two suspects. The 191 police had earlier arrested several small-time drug pushers at night entertainment venues. They confessed to receiving the drugs from other suppliers. At first police did not know if these "suppliers" were the same individuals in all cases.

But the team tracing the suppliers found one common clue — a white Honda Jazz that was used to deliver drugs to Bangkok from an adjacent province, Pol Col Samran said.

"After we identified the car licence plate, we split the 15 detective-team into three smaller teams and sent them to take turns staking out the suspects and the car parked in the suburb," Pol Col Samran said.

The car was parked for almost a month at the house on Phetkasem Soi 9 in Samphran district of Nakhon Pathom, he said.

But on Wednesday, the two suspects got in the car and headed for Bangkok.

They wandered around Boromratchonnanee Road for a while before turning into an isolated soi, dropped an item out of the car, and parked nearby.

The suspects appeared to be waiting for someone to come and pick up the package. But no one showed up.

Police moved in on the car when it looked like the driver had decided to leave the scene. They found 44,000 methamphetamine tablets, 3kg of crystal meth and a handgun in the car and in the package.

More drugs and weapons were found at the suspects' house, eight of which were war weapons, Pol Col Samran said.

Investigators said Mr Wirach admitted he delivered drugs from a man he called "na". He said he was previously paid 60,000 baht for transporting 60,000 methamphetamine tablets from a drug network in the North to Pathum Thani.

Busts seize 738,000 ya ba tablets
Police have seized more than 730,000 methamphetamine pills from drug suspects in Lampang and Chiang Rai.

A man and a woman were apprehended at a police checkpoint in Lampang after they were found carrying more than 538,000 methamphetamine pills worth more than 160 million baht.

Mae Phrik police said Yuthasart Leesakulthong, 29, and an 18-year-old woman identified only as Jane, were detained at a checkpoint on the Thoen-Tak road in tambon Phrabath Wang Tuang in Mae Phrik district on Monday.

Officers on duty said they stopped a white van bearing a Bangkok licence plate carrying eight passengers, including children, heading outbound from the town for a check. Officers found 269 bundles of pills hidden inside the roof lining and vehicle body.

In Chiang Rai, a combined team of police, military and immigration officers arrested two men as they were trying to smuggle drugs across the Thai-Myanmar border.

Officers said Kritsana Todchanung, 30, from Buri Ram, and Piti Anuntantikul, 33, from Phuket were apprehended with 200,000 methamphetamine pills on Monday in Mae Sai district.

Officers who had waited in ambush in a forest in Pa Daeng village stopped Mr Kritsana who was driving a pickup truck in the village for a search. They discovered three boxes containing 200,000 meth pills.

Mr Piti was later detained near the village, police said.

Drugs seized, 7 arrested in North

Seven suspects were arrested and a large quantity of drugs seized in five separate police actions in the North on Wednesday, Region 5 Provincial Police chief Thanitsak Theerasawat said on Thursday.

In Chiang Rai, Mae Suay district police stopped a Toyota Fortuner SUV for a search at Tha Ko checkpoint. They cut open the vehicle's two spare tyres, which appeared to be unusually large, and found 260,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside.

Three men - Apisit Ailuang, 23, Prathin La-nod, 22, and a 16-year-old boy - were arrested and four mobile phones and a bank account book seized. They said the drugs were destined for a client in Chiang Mai, according to police.

In Chiang Mai, San Sai district police searched an Isuzu pick-up truck parked on a roadside and found 10,000 speed pills on the back seat. A man in the vehicle, identified only as Monthan, was arrested.

A search of his house in Chiang Mai uncovered another 20,800 speed pills hidden in a sound system speaker.

In Lampang, police searched a Honda car on the Lampang - Chiang Mai road in tambon Pong Saen Thong, arrested the driver, Kittichai Karakan, 26, and seized 2,022 meth pills, 71.30 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and a mobile phone in his possession.

Also in Lampang, a minor drug dealer, Chankaew Puthambut, 54, was arrested with 196 speed pills and her mobile phone also seized.

In Chiang Mai's Chai Prakan district, a woman, Kanyanat Chaimongkol, 36, was arrested with 26 speed pills hidden in her bag while travelling on a Fang - Chiang Mai bus.
